Grading calcined alumina powder
The Finex Ultima™ and Vibrasonic® Deblinding System removes contamination from calcined alumina powder to improve product quality
Calcined alumina is a chemical compound produced from aluminum oxide and possesses properties like extreme hardness, high melting point, high density, good thermal conductivity, and high electrical resistance. Because of this combination of properties, calcined alumina is utilized in a variety of industrial applications including manufacturing of high-grade ceramic shapes, refractories, and fused alumina abrasives. Inconsistencies in the powder used during their manufacture would compromise these qualities.
Calcined alumina is a sensitive chemical powder which makes screening of the powder difficult due to the fine particles sticking to the mesh, reducing flow rates, and causing loss of good product. To ensure the quality of this powder before it is packaged or mixed with other chemicals, this needs to be thoroughly screened and graded using a vibratory screening machine.
In this demonstration video, the calcined alumina powder is screened using the Finex Ultima™ passing the good powder through an 80 micron mesh screen, removing all oversize particle and contamination and achieving a smooth final consistency before it is packaged and shipped for the next process.
The Finex Ultima™ is more powerful than other conventional sifters in the market and delivers higher productivity for wet or dry materials. Due to its hygienic design and effective screening or grading capabilities of wet or dry material, this is an ideal solution for the processing industry.
Adding the Russell Vibrasonic® Deblinding System, allows the accurate screening of chemical powder down to 20 microns. An ultrasonic frequency is applied to the mesh, preventing the mesh aperture from blinding and blocking.
Russell Finex has more than 85 years of experience working in the sieving and separation industry and applies their wealth of knowledge to a wide variety of industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, coatings, chemicals, and metal powders.
