Ultrasonic solutions help recover metal powders for reuse
The quality of fine metal powders, such as titanium, bronze and copper, used in the production of paints, components and coatings directly influences the quality of the final product. Therefore, it is important to sieve the metal powder with an effective sieving machine. To achieve accurate particle size distribution throughout the process, it is necessary to sieve the metal powders at the beginning of the process to ensure large particles and agglomerates do not contaminate the product. Any excess powder that remains after production can be recovered, sifted and used again. The density of metal powders is usually high which makes it challenging to sieve, as fine particles tend to stick to the mesh, reducing flow rates, causing inconsistent product quality, damaging mesh and increasing the loss of good product. The Russell Compact Sieve® is a metal powder sifter, popular in the processing industry due to its compact design and high capacity throughput. This vibro sifter is equipped with a unique rubber suspension, quick-release clamps and fewer contact parts for tool-free assembly and disassembly to provide fast and effective cleaning and reduced downtime.
When combined with the Vibrasonic® Deblinding System, the sifting machine provides accurate sieving of metal powders down to 20 microns by eliminating mesh blinding. The mesh deblinding system uses an ultrasonic frequency which breaks the surface tension on the mesh screen to prevent fine particles from blinding or blocking the mesh screen. This enables consistent sieving and allows the sieving equipment to run at its optimum level.
